Guest Lecture by Ms. Ruchika Dash

Greetings from the International Law and Policy Society, NLUO!

ILPS is delighted to inform you all about an Online Guest Lecture on the theme “Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Balancing Innovation and Ethics” on the 7th of October 2023, 4-6 PM by Ms. Ruchika Dash.

ABOUT THE THEME:
The theme of the guest lecture shall be “Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Balancing Innovation and Ethics”. Artificial Intelligence is the simulation of human-like intelligence achieved through heuristic methods using software codes. Artificial Intelligence may refer to the software or machines which carry out such simulations or the field itself that combines computer science and robust datasets to provide solutions for various sectors through problem-solving methods. The limits that should be placed on Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies is one of the most pressing faced by society, governments, and the private sector. In the same manner that human intelligence is marked by intrinsic bias in decision-making, studies have shown that such characteristic biases can also be found in AI products as their functioning is based on human-created intelligence. The potential uses of AI for humans are tremendous. Indeed, AI disproportionally affects the human rights of vulnerable individuals and groups by facilitating discrimination, thus creating a new form of oppression rooted in technology. This lecture will aim to evaluate the appropriate approach that must be taken to regulate further development in AI- risk based self-assessment and self-regulation by AI developers or the extensive embedment of human rights principles in the entire life cycle of AI.
